was like 15 feet away from the most amazing and talented person I've ever seen in concert (please do not be fooled by the fact that this was my first "real" concert). She was incredible. Missy Higgins, Australian native, piano/guitar/singer/songwriter extraordinaire.
)
It was the ultimate girls night. Sponsored by the Beattie fam birthday fund (thanks!!!), and initiated by my favorite musical muse Kristen, we (Kristen, Amy, and I) subjected the Pearl District to our wild and craziness that comes from going out sans kiddos.
Some highlights from the night:
- The waiter (Dennis, right? Or Mr. Clean) who flirted shamelessly with 3 married women in order to get a good tip. Hey, he liked tables that 'had a sense of humor.'
- 2 orders of Pf Changs crab wontons.... that's right, I said 2. I thought I had died and gone to heaven.
- When the parking garage attendant told us it was $7....and Kristen goes "Oh I get it, the next car is $10?" We were sure we were getting ripped off.
- The year-long line for the ladies room, and Kristen decided the mens room was just as good - until the guy came in. Don't worry, she survived and we were relieved....literally.
- Pushing our way to the front and then having Amy and Kristen push the crowd back and hold a little pocket of space for me, their crazy claustrophobic friend. It was worth every minute of deep breathing when I looked around at the people inches away from us. Seriously. Thanks SO much.
- I loved how she looked like she had just rolled out of bed to come and play. Not done up, hair pulled back in a messy ponytail. She was so real.
- How every song sounded PERFECT. Her voice is incredible. So powerful and yet so full of emotion.
- Hearing her talk about "paw-cah-tellah." Say that with a really heavy Australian accent. She was talking about Pocatello, ID. It was hilarious.
- I want to move to Australia. Her accent was great, and I love how you can hear it when she sings. Why try to hide what is you? And so it comes to this:
Tickets: $24
Parking: $7 (the sign said $5.95)
Having a night out with my friends, being stuck in traffic, running through the drizzle to stand amongst hot and sweaty strangers while listening to my new favorite singer ever? Obviously, it was
PRICELESS.
