Awkward highlight of my week? Teaching the 'chastity' lesson in Relief Society. It honestly wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, so I really can't complain. Plus, I was recommended this book by an awesome mother in our ward. Since some of those awkward questions have already come around at our house (it's amazing what 1st graders say at school....or it's not so amazing) I ordered this as soon as I got home. So, bring on the awkward moments. Or you could wait a few more years......

I've heard/read from several sources that you have until your child is 8 to be the first one to talk to them about sex. After 8 you have missed your window and they WILL hear it from school or from someone else. AAAAHHHHH!!
I guess I better get this book soon. Thanks for the recommendation!
awesome. For some reason chastity in RS seems more intimidating than in YW! :)
Being pregnant sure has brought a lot of questions from my kiddos. And for some reason we are NEVER at home, but always in public, and earshot of others when they lay the heavy questions on me! :)
Sad I missed your lesson :(
I just bought this book a couple months ago...I think the time is quickly coming when we're going to sit down with Josh and have "the talk." Good luck!!
Since I am much younger (you granny) I just have to say that I knew about it before I was eight. I was friends with a lot of non-lds peers who I heard about it from.
I took a class at byu and my professor always said how you should have lots of mini-discussions with your kids as they grow up. Simple concepts and getting more in depth as they grow up and understand more. Starting from like the age of 4. Now, looking at my sweet innocent Ethan I can't even imagine that. But just saying. Kids sometimes know a lot more than you think they do. It's a scary world out there that's for sure.
danielle - yes, that's exactly what this book is about. having lots of mini-discussions (prep work) and then laying it all out at 8, and then continuing to follow-up as they grow older and have more questions/maturity. It's a weird concept though, thinking about talking to my 3-4 year old already? but like you said - kids know WAY more than they say!
I might need to look into that book! What a coincidence! I had to give this same lesson in RS last Sunday and was so nervous about it...and guess what, it turned out totally fine too! It's amazing what the Spirit brings to a difficult topic! Is that book written by LDS authors? just curious!
