Ever since I was a little girl (and even before I was born), my family has had an advent calendar that was handmade by a sweet couple who were neighbors to my Dad and his family while they were all growing up. As kids, we all looked forward to (and possibly fought over) who was going to get to place that day's ornament on the tree.
Two years ago, I received my own advent calendar, made by the same family. It is a gift I will treasure for as long as I live, even more so with the creators (Shorty & Glo S*) having passed away. Although last year was technically the first Christmas season that I had put it up, I had just had a little baby and moved (in the same week) and so the calendar was leaned up against the wall. We only put on 10 decorations before leaving for the Christmas holidays (and more help).
I have been waiting all year to put it up. And tomorrow the countdown begins!

We (meaning the boys and me) loved looking at the flip video. They clapped when Kyler blew out his calendar and laughed when anything funny happened. Tons of fun! Wish we were seeing you soon. Love ya!
I meant candle.
This post brought tears to my eyes. I am so glad that we were able to get one for all of you. This has always been one of my favorite decorations and I am so glad that we got the original! I miss going to Shorty's Shop to see what is new each year, but glad we have the most important growing up reminders like the Advent Calendar and rocking horse! Sweet memories!!
What a beautiful advent calendar!! That will definitely be such a treasure. I have started making one, but of course, it will not be done until next year.
I hope you have a happy Christmas!!
Not much longer and I get to see you in the flesh!! Can't wait!
That is SO much fun. I love christmas traditions and have started lots of new ones this year for little B. They just get so excited for the simple things.Your boys new pics are ADORABLE!!
I have this exact same advent calendar - we got it at Shorty's shop in Bethany Beach, DE where my mom has had a home for almost 30 years. It is one of my most treasured possesions. I can just picture Shorty working in his wonderful little shop. I am always a little sad when I go past the empty building now.
PS - I live in Los Angeles --- so I guess there is a little bit of Shorty and his wonderful work now on the West Coast..... :)
